Good points. I think this is especially true if you're a consulting designer... the best you can do is lay out your thinking clearly and educate the client on the options. There also is some solace in being able to let go.

It's a tricky balance as you pointed out, but I do think many of us fold too early and bend at the first comment from an executive or peer.
